Today I found myself wanting to branch out my music while driving. I found an old Linkin Park CD in my case and popped it in. I was immediately whisked away back to high school (I wanted to say "Like a rush of blood to my head", but it was more like whiting out).
It has been said that Linkin Park is like a roller coaster (source: http://yhbtm.com/ "Linkin Park may seem rebellious or appear dangerous when in fact it's perfectly safe for family fun as long as your over the height of forty eight inches."), but I think it is more like a roller coaster accident. You don't want to look, but you just can't help it. This being the closest to rap I will ever come, it does broaden my horizons. However, I can listen to it with 50%-80% 0f my musical brain turned off, depending on the song.
I only listened to "Meteora" today, and I can't even remember what the name was for the other album (too lazy to look it up). As far as it went, my favorite track is and always has been track 9, "Breaking the habit". I always thought it was because I was a depress-o, but today I discovered that it has absolutely no rap contained within. Imagine what paying attention can do! That would make track 11 my least favorite due to the gross amounts of rap. Actually I pretty much hate it.
On the way home, I was speeding, and as soon as I got in my door I sat at my piano and played Sentimental Guy by Ben Folds. I think I'll change my CD tomorrow.
On a side note, usually a band plays very well when the musicians have a good day, but with the style of music that Linkin Park plays, would it be reversed? "Oh, sorry guys, I can't play tonight. My wife gave me this awesome back massage, I played catch with my son, and we went down to the animal shelter and adopted a kitten. I'm just in too good a mood."
